Reiki is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan in the late 1800s. Brought into its current permutation in the 1920s by Dr. Mikao Usui, Reiki therapy works by laying hands on or near the body's energy field at specific points to help remove blocks and restore the flow of energy.

Reiki is a meditative practice, and while it is a vastly under-researched area of complementary therapy, it's finally gaining the respect it deserves in the treatment of pain, depression, and the management of emotional and physical stress. Sure, you'll find people who doubt its veracity, but there's a reason top organizations like the Mayo Clinic and Cancer Research UK have added Reiki to their arsenals.
